Introduction

The Special Educational Needs Code of Practice provides guidelines on how to best support children with special educational needs. This course shows examples of good practice under the Code. Its purpose is to help you to reflect on and develop practice appropriate to your circumstances. It is aimed at every one in schools and LEAs, and also those agencies who work closely with them.

The course is organised in the five sections shown in the menu bar on the left. Each section contains a number of video clips related to that topic. It also contains a set of follow-up questions provided for different roles – Class or Form Teacher, SENCO, Head Teacher and School Governor. You can work through the sections in order or access a particular section directly.

The course is based upon the video ‘Every Child is Different’ produced by the South Central and South East SEN Regional Partnerships, in conjunction with Supernova. The video looks at how the special educational needs of three children are being met. The clips below provide an introduction to the children, and to the Code of Practice. You may wish to view these before starting the course. Just DOUBLE click on the photo to open a video window. Allow a few seconds for the video to autoplay. If you have any problems viewing the video sequences click on Help above.
