Children's services are currently undergoing intense financial scrutiny, and we have no doubt that one of the areas which will be under the microscope is spending on special educational needs, including out of authority placements. Find out how Onlineinset, when deployed strategically across schools, can not only impact on attitudes but is also extremely cost-effective, and can reach large numbers of staff in a relatively short time scale. The Special Educational Needs Code of Practice provides guidelines on how to best support children with special educational needs. This course shows examples of good practice under the Code. Its purpose is to help you to reflect on and develop practice appropriate to your circumstances. It is aimed at every one in schools and LEAs, and also those agencies who work closely with them.
The course is organised in the five sections shown in the menu bar on the left. Each section contains a number of video clips related to that topic. It also contains a set of follow-up questions provided for different roles – Class or Form Teacher, SENCO, Head Teacher and School Governor. You can work through the sections in order or access a particular section directly.
Why should teachers, schools, local authorities and others work in partnership with parents and carers? Apart from the fact that a duty to do so is enshrined in legislation.
All local authorities have established Parent Partnership Services in one form or another to improve this relationship. This online course is based on their experience, and is designed to introduce you to the relevant issues, to stimulate your thinking, and to provide you with a few useful tools to enhance your own practice. Whilst it is aimed primarily at those working in the education sector, it will also be of interest to those in health, social care, the voluntary sector, and to parents/carers* themselves.
Commissioned by the National Parent Partnership Network.
One of the most effective ways of promoting the inclusion agenda is to ensure that mainstream teachers have the skills to meet the needs of a variety of pupils, particularly those with special educational needs who might otherwise find themselves in special schools. The effectiveness of the training offered by OnlineInset, as a result of feedback from colleagues in the 51 local authorities and organisations who have been delivering the package for some years, is well documented. We certainly know from the regular, embedded, feedback we receive that our training has a knock-on effect on attitudes to accepting some of the more challenging pupils in mainstream schools, and that this in turn prompts schools to use existing resources more effectively rather than demanding more.
When OnlineInset is deployed strategically across schools it not only impacts on attitudes but is also extremely cost-effective, and can reach large numbers of staff in a relatively short time scale. Management information of this type, together with a great deal more, is available to our strategic leads at all times through the learning management system (LMS). Many local authorities have achieved a cost neutral position by charging schools relatively modest sums for delivery. For more information please contact info@onlineinset.net.
