Please be ESPECIALLY aware of running or opening e-mails purporting to come from apparently friendly sources. If in any doubt DO NOT OPEN attachments. Update your system ONLY through the WINDOWS UPDATE method.

Steps to protect

The first step in protecting your computer from any malicious there is to ensure that your operating system (OS) is up-to-date. This is essential if you are running a Microsoft Windows OS.

Secondly you should ensure that the latest, reliable virus software, including full anti-virus, Mail anti-virus, Web anti-virus, Anti spam, Anti-spy, anti hacker (Firewall and intrusion detection) is up to date with the latest database.

You must then follow the steps below:

  1. FULL/DEEP Scan you computer at HIGH risk setting.
  2. DELETE all files in the C:/windows/TEMP folder
  3. DELETE all temporary internet files through your web browser
    1. I.E. TOOLS>INTERNET OPTIONS>BROWSING HISTORY>TEMPORARY INTERNET FILES
    2. Firefox TOOLS>CLEAR RECENT HISTORY>CACHE
    3. It would be good practice to DELETE these files regularly.
  4. Run another FULL/DEEP scan
  5. Repeat the above steps on ALL computers on your network
  6. Inform your IT technician if you are in school

Recommended anti virus programme: Kaspersky or Macafee

Deleting the temporary files will do your computer no harm, quite the reverse. If you have a recycle bin make sure this is emptied after deleting the temporary files.

Video content is STREAMED. Occasionally streaming video content is disallowed on a local area network. A technician can change the

proxy settings

to enable streaming video. The address from which our videos stream is:

Please supply this to the local technician who should then be able to allow the video to stream.
